Several capable tools now offer a legal front door for in-house teams, and this summer most of them moved into the places employees already work: Slack, Teams, email, and their AI assistant. The differences that matter now are what it costs and what is included, how fast you are live, whether the AI works for your legal team as well as the business, and what happens after someone knocks. Here is how the options stack up, using each vendor's own published information.
The bottom line
Short version: the leading tools all capture requests, route them, and now meet employees in Slack, Teams, and email. Where they part ways is what is included in the price, time to launch, what the AI does for the lawyers themselves, and what happens after the request comes in. LegalOperator is $200 a month plus $20 per legal seat, live in days, and pairs the front door with Iris, an AI agent for the legal team.

The options, fairly
Checkbox positions itself as the AI Legal Front Door for in-house legal teams: capture, triage, automate, manage, and report on legal work across the tools teams already use. It raised a $23M Series A. In May 2026 Checkbox added AI Agent Actions, AI Corrections that let lawyers improve answers in real time, institutional knowledge capture, automated status updates, and cycle-time reporting. A strong fit for legal-ops teams that want to build and own detailed workflows. Pricing and implementation timelines are not published.
Streamline AI relaunched in April 2026 as an in-house legal AI platform: Velo Copilot, Featherline for contract review, AI email intake, no-code workflow with approvals and SLA tracking, matter management, real-time reporting, and a Knowledge Bot add-on. In July 2026 they added a Slack intake agent and an MCP Connector so employees can ask about legal matters from their AI assistant. Their pricing page shows Pro and Enterprise plans with four core users each; prices are not published. Most teams are live in about 60 days.
ServiceNow's legal module is powerful and enterprise-grade, with Now Assist adding generative AI, and it is the natural choice for large organizations already standardized on ServiceNow across IT, HR, and procurement. In May 2026 ServiceNow added an MCP Connector so outside AI agents can run governed ServiceNow workflows. That strength comes with a platform commitment, an implementation project, and enterprise pricing.
Matter management and e-billing systems are built to run formal matters and outside-counsel spend. They do that job well, but intake usually rides along as a bolt-on module designed for lawyers rather than the business.
Why teams choose us
The other tools are capable. This is where LegalOperator stands apart:
There is no single best tool. The right choice depends on how fast you need to launch, whether you want the business to self-serve, how transparent you want pricing to be, and whether you need a legal front door or a full matter management system. Checkbox, Streamline AI, and ServiceNow each fit different needs, and LegalOperator is built for smaller teams that want a fast, intake-first front door with monthly pricing and an AI agent for the lawyers themselves.
Both are capable intake and workflow platforms, and both moved into chat and AI assistants this year. LegalOperator differs on price and model ($200 a month plus $20 per legal seat, unlimited business users, nothing on the intake side sold separately), speed (live in days), and where the AI works: Iris serves the legal team in web, Slack, Teams, email, and through our MCP Connector, reviews documents into the Word file, and generates documents from your templates.
They solve different problems. Matter management systems run formal matters and outside-counsel spend. A legal front door handles the larger half of the work that never becomes a matter: the everyday questions, requests, and routine work. If your goal is to reclaim that time and give the business fast answers, an intake-first front door is the better fit.
$200 a month for the platform plus $20 per legal seat, unlimited business users, $1,000 one-time setup, published on our pricing page. Streamline AI publishes its plan structure but not prices. Checkbox and ServiceNow publish neither.
Yes. Iris was called Copilot before June 2026. One name now, across web, Slack, Teams, and email.
Yes. LegalOperator has an MCP Connector: any MCP-capable tool can connect and use the same tools Iris uses, filtered by the user's role and by what your company has turned on. It is opt-in per customer.
