Nathan's story

Before I started Lexiomatic, before I started SimpleLegal, I ran a consulting firm that worked at Liberty Mutual under Helen Gillcrist, SVP of Enterprise Legal Services (a role she started in 2005, before it was called Legal Ops), and Catherine Pomiecko, VP of Systems and Analytics. Their team oversaw a 2,000-person in-house legal department and $1B in outside counsel spend. These two were pioneers among pioneers, quiet leaders in what would become known as Legal Ops.

When I started SimpleLegal, I was at the first-ever CLOC conference in San Francisco. You remember that one, right? That's the one Mary, Connie, and Steph put together for hundreds of attendees in less than 90 days... while also doing their day jobs. We were at the first CLOC Summit in Europe and the first CLOC Summit APAC in Australia. I've spent the last decade watching this space evolve from a handful of early adopters into a recognized profession.

SimpleLegal was acquired in 2019 and I moved on from the company in 2021. But my LinkedIn feed kept showing me the same problems: legal teams drowning in requests, answering the same questions over and over, using tools that created more work than they saved.

Then AI changed everything.

Why start something new?

When I started SimpleLegal, we believed we could build something better than Serengeti, which at the time was the dominant player and just over a decade old. Similarly, when Serengeti had launched, its founders believed the same thing about the dominant legacy tools of their day. Every ten years or so, the available technology catches up to what legal teams actually need.

AI is that moment.

Lexiomatic is the product I'm excited to build to solve the problems facing today's legal teams. After over 20 years in legal, I've seen what works and what doesn't. I've seen vendors build complexity because complexity justifies cost. I've seen implementations drag on for months when they should take days.

We're building Lexiomatic because we finally have the technology that can keep up with our aspirations.

What we believe

Knowledge should compound

Every interaction should make the system smarter. Information should find you when and where you need it.

Software can be simple and powerful

If it requires months of implementation and training, something is broken. Instantly knowable, infinitely masterable.

Pricing should be transparent

We publish our pricing because we value your time.

The best legal software is the kind your team actually uses, but never sees. We're building for that standard.

Lexiomatic: the AI-powered front door to legal, built by the team that pioneered legal operations software.
